Event Image Exhibition | Jan Zach: Works on Paper | July 30 - October 23

Explore the drawings, sketch books, and sculpture maquettes created by the late University of Oregon professor Jan Zach (1914-1986). Curated by HFMA collection curator Jonathan Bucci, the exhibition will draw from the museum’s extensive collection of Zach’s art, and from the Pacific Northwest Artist Archive housed at Willamette University’s Hatfield Library.

Zach was born in Slany, Czechoslovakia and came to the United States via Brazil and Victoria, BC to teach sculpture at the University of Oregon for 20 years. As a practicing artist, Zach explored themes of light and movement in nature.

Event Image Exhibition | Russell Childers: Oregon Outsider | July 30 - October 23

Russell Childers (1915-1998) was a self-taught wood carver whose themes focused on memories of his mother, childhood, animals, important historical figures, Western imagery, and his life at Oregon Fairview Home in Salem, where he lived for 39 years. Organized by collection curator Jonathan Bucci, the exhibition will feature 25 wood sculptures on loan from public and private collections throughout the western United States.

Strange and Wonderful: American Folk Art from the Willem and Diane Volkersz Collection

Willem and Diane Volkersz of Bozeman, Montana have collected folk and outsider art since the mid-1970s, amassing an extensive collection over the past 40 years. Organized by director John Olbrantz under the guidance of the Volkersz’, this exhibition features 108 objects by 32 artists that reflect the breadth and scope of this remarkable collection. Included in the exhibition are paintings, sculptures, drawings, ceramics, textiles, and mixed media works by self-taught and outsider artists such as the Rev. Howard Finster, Arthur Frenchy, Robert E. Smith, and Sarah Taylor, among many others.

Willamette Music Department Music Groups welcome Friends and Family to Family Weekend Concert

Five outstanding Willamette University ensembles will welcome friends, family and the Salem community in the Family Weekend Concert, Saturday, October 15 at 7:00pm in Smith Auditorium on the Willamette University Campus. The performance is free and the public is welcome.

Performing will be the Willamette Wind Ensemble, the University Chamber Orchestra, Male Ensemble Willamette and Voce Femminile and the Chamber Choir.

Willamette Events Board (WEB) and Family Weekend present: Jessi Campbell!

Jessi Campbell has recently been seen on Last Comic Standing. She is the 2015 Campus Activities Magazine Female Performer of the Year, an award she was also nominated for in 2013. Jessi’s comedy CD “Winner Winner” has been featured on iTunes and can be heard on Sirius/XM Radio, Pandora Radio, and terrestrial radio stations across country. Jessi has performed at Gilda’s LaughFest, The Boston Comedy Festival, The Great American Comedy Festival, San Francisco SketchFest, and was the People’s Choice winner at the 2009 Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival.
