Navaratri is a nine-day Hindu celebration of the triumph of good over evil. It is divided into three sets of three days of adoration of aspects of the supreme goddesses. The Claudia Quintet

John Hollenbeck, drums/composer

Chris Speed, clarinet/saxophone

Red Wierenga, accordion

Matt Moran, vibraphone

Chris Tordini, bass

Formed by composer/drummer John Hollenbeck in 1997, this NYC ensemble explores the edge without alienating the mainstream, proving that genre-defying music can be for everyone. Over the past decade, The Claudia Quintet has released six CDs that are critically acclaimed worldwide and whose appeal extends well beyond the traditional jazz audience. The group has amazed listeners from Alabama to the Amazon - their distinctive sound has inspired dancing hippie girls at a New Mexico noise festival, the avant-garde cognoscenti in the concert halls of Vienna and Sao Paolo, and a generation of young musicians worldwide. In the course of the thousands of miles they have traveled together and hundreds of concerts they’ve played, the Claudia Quintet has developed a dynamic live sound based on trust and spontaneity. They release their seventh album in September 2013.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 student/senior, and free to WU Music Faculty and WU Music Students with ID.

Tickets are available at the Willamette Music Office or by calling 503-370-6255
