Small Ensembles Concert

Event Description

The Willamette University Department of  Music presents the Small Ensembles Fall Concert on Tuesday, November 14 at 7:30pm in Hudson Hall. The concert will feature four groups. The Willamette University String Quartet will perform Dmitry Shostakovich’s Quartet No, 8, a five- movement work composed in 1960 and dedicated to the victims of fascism and war. The Contemporary Ensemble, consisting of two cellos, bass and piano, will present Canadian composer, Claude Vivier’s 1977 “Pulau Dewata.”

In addition the woodwind quartet, 5 Reeds and a Flute, will perform Spanish composer, Eduardo Grau’s Sardana, Ball I Fuga. The group, (in addition to flute) includes oboe, clarinet and bassoon. Finally the Willamette Percussion Ensemble will play music by American composers: “Music for Pieces of Wood” (1973) by Steve Reich, and Mark Ford’s “Stubernic” (1996). The concert is free and without ticket, but donations for summer study by Willamette music students is encouraged
