Event Description

SALEM, Ore.—The Willamette University Choral Program will present a Spring Concert with a wonderful variety of literature including the premiere of four brand new works.

Male Ensemble Willamette, directed by Dr. Paul Klemme will perform a piece by Dylan Librande WU '16, who has written a new setting of the Willamette University Alma Mater.   The piece incorporates texts from past glee club songs and retains some of the text and harmony from the original alma mater. Seth Eggleston WU '17 has arranged a medley of three tunes for male voice. The medley includes Bob Seger's "Turn, Turn, Turn", George Gershwin's "Summertime" and Simon and Garfunkel's "A Hazy Shade of Winter."

Voce Femminile, directed by Chris Engbretson will premeire “Two Nocturnes” written by Zach Gulaboff Davis for the group.  They will also perform “Pueri Hebraeorum” by G. Pierluigi da Palestrina and “Hail Holy Queen” (from Sister Act).

The Willamette Chamber Choir, directed by Dr. Wallace Long will premeire “The Beauty of Gray” composed by Matt Sazima WU ‘14 to poetry written by Wes Robinson, long time Salem resident and friend to the music department. Senior Music Ed major, Collyn Johnson will conduct “Entreat Me Not to Leave You” by Dan Forrest.  Chamber will also perform two well known and loved compositions:  “Water Night” by Eric Whitacre and “Twa Tanbou” by Sydney Guillaume.

Willamette Chamber Choir members Aubrey Harris, Alexa Anderson, Collyn Johnson, Rie Tanabe, Olga Valdes, Zachary Duell, Simon Keightley, Michael Watson, Evan Britton, and Brandon Miller, from the Salem-Keizer area will be performing in the concert.
