Event Description
Title of Lecture: "Keep Making Art", presented by Adam Stennett.
Adam Stennett is a conceptual artist whose work has variously addressed such themes as the pervasiveness of big pharma, urban displacement, government sponsored secret projects, fear and survival in a post 9/11 world, and the ramifications of living in a complex present that have all served as catalysts for his explorations and commentary on contemporary 21st century global society. His oddly prescient series' of art works manifest themselves in a variety of media that span the realms of painting, sculpture, installation, performance and video. Stennett's art practice is characterized by his highly detailed, exquisitely rendered, long-term investigations of institutional ideas generated through history and their impacts on the collective psyche of the American people.
Stennett was born in Kotzebue, Alaska in 1972 and graduated from Willamette University in 1994 with a double major in Studio Art and English. He currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. His work is included in numerous public and private collections and has been widely exhibited in both, national and international exhibitions at venues such as Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City, the Portland Art Museum, the Chelsea Art Museum, the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art and The National Arts Club as well as at a variety of established galleries.
Stennett's work has been reviewed and featured in publications such as The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Sun, Frieze, Art In America, Bomb Magazine, Contemporary Magazine, Whitehot Magazine, BlackBook, New York Magazine, The New Yorker, Harper's Magazine, and Esquire among others. Stennett has lectured at Georgetown University, the School of Visual Arts (SVA), and the New York Film Academy as well as participating on panels as an artist
