10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

*WU Campus - Hallie Ford Museum of Art

Explore the drawings, sketch books, and sculpture maquettes created by the late University of Oregon professor Jan Zach (1914-1986). Curated by HFMA collection curator Jonathan Bucci, the exhibition will draw from the museum’s extensive collection of Zach’s art, and from the Pacific Northwest Artist Archive housed at Willamette University’s Hatfield Library.

Zach was born in Slany, Czechoslovakia and came to the United States via Brazil and Victoria, BC to teach sculpture at the University of Oregon for 20 years. As a practicing artist, Zach explored themes of light and movement in nature.

Event Image Statesman-Journal Decides Secretary of State Endorsement at Willamette Law
2:00 PM

*WU Campus - Law School

Candidates for Oregon Secretary of State Brad Avakian and Dennis Richardson will be interviewed by the Statesman-Journal Editorial Board at Willamette University College of Law to determine which candidate the newspaper will endorse.

Why is This Office Important?
Oregon's Secretary of State is first in line of succession to the governor. Duties include: auditor of public accounts, chief elections officer, and administrator of public records. The Secretary of State also serves on the Oregon State Land Board and chairs the Oregon Sustainability Board. Following every United States Census, if the Oregon Legislative Assembly cannot come to agreement over changes to legislative redistricting, the duty falls to the Secretary of State.

The event is a Q&A, not a debate. The editorial board will ask a series of questions that each candidate will answer in two minute intervals. The event moderator will request the audience not clap or respond to candidates during the Q&A. Audience members are invited to submit questions to the moderator on provided notecards.

This event is an opportunity to learn more about the candidates for Oregon's Secretary of State and the candidate endorsement process. Anyone interested in Oregon's political process is encouraged to attend.

The event is open to the public. Paid parking is available in the guest lot located at the northeast corner of Winter and Bellevue Streets (subject to availability). Cost is $3 after noon.

There are metered spots along Winter Street near the College of Law, as well as a limited number of short-term meters at the north edge of the Sparks (main) parking lot, near the Montag Center (west side), in the Kaneko Commons lot (near the vehicle gate), and in the courtyard between Lausanne and Doney Halls. Two longer-term meters are located near the west side of Sparks Athletic Center. After 3 p.m., visitors may park in any lot on campus.
