David Roberts (1796-1864) was a Scottish painter who traveled to the Near East in the late 1830s and produced a series of bound, hand-colored lithographs of Egypt and the Holy Land in the 1840s from sketches made during his travels. These folios provided Europeans, and eventually Americans, with their first views of the exotic Orient, changing forever their vision of Egypt and the Middle East. This small exhibition features several of Roberts’ prints.

Jewish Humor - "If I Didn't Laugh, I'd Cry."
An exploration of the roots, evolution, and impact of Jewish humor.

Join us on the first Tuesday of the month for a lively brown-bag seminar and discussion on a variety of topics. Bring your lunch or purchase it at the Cat Café.

In the first session of this year's "Big Questions Over Lunch" series, assistant chaplain Rabbi Gary Ellison will trace the development of Jewish humor from Talmudic times to the present. Among themes to be explored are humor as a cathartic response to tragedy/persecution and the assimilation of Jewish humor into American culture.
