Event Description
Marat Grinberg, Associate Professor of Russian, Humanities, and Comparative Literature at Reed College, will discuss Alexander Askoldov's film "The Commissar" (1967/1987). He will introduce the film's tragic production and release history, as well as describe the film's diverse literary and cinematic contexts and its many-sided poetics of Jewishness, femininity, and the Russian Revolution.

In preparation for his talk, a showing of "The Commissar" will be held on Thursday, March 9th, at 7PM in Ford 122.
