Willamette Master Chorus Solo Recital with Leslie Katter

Event Description

The Willamette University Music Department will host lyric coloratura soprano, Leslie Katter, and pianist, Debra Huddleston, as guest artists for a week-long residency. Katter and Huddleston will give a lecture recital during a Music Convocation, perform a full-length recital, lead a master class for current music students, and join the Willamette Master Chorus in concert.

About Leslie Katter

Leslie Katter graduated with a Master's of Music in Voice Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and currently studies with Jane Randolph in San Francisco, CA. After graduating, Leslie made her professional debut as The Queen of the Night in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with Waffle Opera, and sang the role of Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdinck) with Portland Summer Opera Workshop. She recently performed scenes as Giulietta from Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Muffin from Bolcom’s A Wedding, Lucia from Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Countess Rosina Almaviva from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Philine from Thomas' Mignon, and Konstanze from Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Leslie sang the role of Venus (Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach) with SFCM in the spring of her first year of graduate studies, and premiered the final version of the role of Belisa in Conrad Susa's The Love of Don Perlimplin during her second year. She sang the roles of Adele (Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II), Omnipotent (The Descent of Man by Jonathan Hicks), and the title role of Suor Angelica by Giacomo Puccini during her undergraduate study at Willamette University.

Ms. Katter received the Encouragement Award from the Washington District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions following her Master’s degree, and during her undergraduate study, was a winner of the Willamette University Chamber Orchestra Aria Competition, and two-time winner of the Salem Chamber Orchestra Aria Competition. She studied privately with Allison Swensen-Mitchell for six years before coming to the Bay Area, and has performed in master classes for artists such as John Churchwell, Sheri Greenawald, Patricia Wise, Patricia Craig, Edlyn de Oliveira, Pilar Jurado, Jenny Cook, Neil Wilson, and Ruth Dobson.

Featured repertoire for the recitals will include pieces by W. A. Mozart, Richard Strauss, Louis Beydts, Jake Heggie and Franz Lehár.

 Tuesday, November 7th – Lecture Recital during Music Convocation in Hudson Hall at 11:30am; free admission

Wednesday, November 8th – Full-Length Recital in Hudson Hall at 7:30pm; free admission

Thursday, November 9th – Master Class in Hudson Hall at 11:30am; free admission
