Distilled: Weathering Climate Change Under Trump
Start Date: 1/3/2018Start Time: 7:30 PM
End Date: 1/3/2018End Time: 8:00 PM

Event Description
Willamette University's "Distilled" series of pub talks will feature a presentation from law professor Susan Smith, who will present "Distilled: Weathering Climate Change Under Trump." The talk will be January 3, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. at The Half Penny in Salem.

Smith will discuss the regulatory and political consequences of Trump's rejection of climate science. "Despite Trump's best efforts, local governments and utilities will continue shifting away from carbon-based fuels," Smith says. "States are legislating standards at the same time that the market has lowered the cost of new wind and solar power plans."

In addition to teaching, Smith is the director of the Certificate Program in Sustainability at Willamette University College of Law. She joined the faculty after more than two decades litigating environmental and natural resources issues — first as a private attorney, and, ultimately, as assistant chief of the U.S. Department of Justice's Environmental Defense Section.
