Intimus Interruptus: An Exploration of How Black Men Negotiate Ruptures in Their Political and Personal Intimacy

Featuring two lectures by scholars Lisa Corrigan, University of Arkansas; and Ebony Utley, California State University-Long Beach • Lisa Corrigan Associate Professor of Communication and Director of Gender Studies University of Arkansas "When Harlem Bid Farewell: Memorializing the Death of Malcolm" Exploring the public memorializing of Malcolm X following his 1965 assassination in Harlem to understand the complexity of rhetorical contestation over the meaning of his death. • Ebony Utley Associate Professor of Communication Studies California State University-Long Beach. "God Bless the Child: The Sexual Violations of African American Boys" A qualitative study of black men recounting how their sexual experiences as young black boys that occurred before the legal age of consent at 18 may have impacted their adult lives. This event will also feature the two scholars in conversation with one another about issues related to curriculum diversity.
